It was great to see so many families taking rides on the buses.Who says it was only for "men of a certain age"!
Everyone I have spoken to about it ,enjoyed themselves tremendously, and whilst the good weather did help, may I thank the drivers, conductors, and administrators who made the day so pleasurable.
I paticularly liked the expressions on the faces of motorists driving past Worcester Park station, who didn't know about the event and thought they had been transported back in time.
Let's hope we do not have to wait too long for a repeat performance.

Robin Gill
Thu, 14 Aug 2008 13:16:31 -0500 http://www.ourkt4.com/forum/message/2793 /forum/message/2793 RE: house painter - Robin N Gill
A friend of mine recently had some work done by Rob Gadd Construction (020 8942 4686) which included some external woodwork painting and was very pleased with the result..

Robin Gill
Thu, 14 Aug 2008 09:20:52 -0500 http://www.ourkt4.com/forum/message/2790 /forum/message/2790 RE: The Hamptons Apartheid - The Brinkster
Hi there Outsider

It's been an ongoing topic on the Worcester Park Blog and a number of the comments in the Daily Mail were lifted from it without any form of acknowledgement of the blog or the 20 minute conversation that they had with its writer.

To expand the curfew subject Redruth in Cornwall has been running a well-publicised curfew recently and Police from Barry in Wales have been mentioned as being interested in setting up a similar scheme so the issue isn't just about curfew as such but why this one seems to have been selectively implemented at the Hamptons.

To see news about the Redruth curfew follow these links:
web link
web link
web link

To read the Worcester Park Blog on the subject
web link

To read my blog on the subject
web link

Cheers

The Brinkster

P.S. the plural of "forum" is "fora", from the Latin, but "forums" is much more commonly used on the internet.
Tue, 05 Aug 2008 01:03:43 -0500 http://www.ourkt4.com/forum/message/2702 /forum/message/2702 The Hamptons Apartheid - The Outsider
Controversial title. But that was the title of an article in the Daily Mail on Saturday 2 Aug. The gists of it was that residents of the social housing were being asked to sign up to a children's curfew preventing their little angels going out after 9. While the other "non-social housing" residents were not requested to sign up to such an agreement.

Lots of side issues to get distracted by, but why not, what is the suposed evil injustice of having to get them indoors by 9PM. The request was made not by any Hamptons body but by the administrators of the social housing, Thames Valley Housing Trust. If there is an issue it should be taken up with TVHT not with the other residents of the Hamptons.

Has this excited disussion on any other W Pard discussion forums (what is the plural of forum please).
Sun, 03 Aug 2008 15:22:55 -0500 http://www.ourkt4.com/forum/message/2694 /forum/message/2694 Star Storage Table with 2 chairs - £25 - Sarah Griffiths
This fun and practical children's storage table and chair set combines a large play table with lots of useful storage. 4 plastic storage bins sit neatly underneath the table and are ideal for storing toys and craft products. It is only the people in open top cars that have to worry. I guess they didn't do this over the road as it would require shutting the road to do it.

I wrote to Kingston Council's public health department about this once, but I was told it is not sufficient of a health hazard for them to do anything.
Thu, 19 Jun 2008 09:17:21 -0500 http://www.ourkt4.com/forum/message/2425 /forum/message/2425 RE: Traffic jams - WorcesterParkBlog.org.uk
Good news folks - we only have to wait another year or so for TFL to rephase the traffic lights in Worcester Park. The good news is that they will be linking all sets of traffic lights from The Station right the way up Central Road in an effort to ease the flow of traffic. Let's see if that works.

If the 'rat run' through Waitrose car park into Central Road was closed off that would alleviate some of the problems.
Fri, 13 Jun 2008 13:02:06 -0500 http://www.ourkt4.com/forum/message/2387 /forum/message/2387 RE: Traffic jams - The Brinkster
David's a man after my own heart. I'm also of the opinion that there should be a roundabout by Manor Park rather than lights. The set of junctions by Worcester Park station could be remedied but the problem is that there needs to be enough space for buses to turn out of the station car park, meaning that no significant physical changes can be made to the road layout as it stands. The last option is to mess around with the phasing of the lights but seeing as one side of the railway belongs to Sutton and the other to Kingston I'm assuming there's not sufficient will to coordinate themselves

The Brinkster Blog - web link.
Thu, 12 Jun 2008 02:44:25 -0500 http://www.ourkt4.com/forum/message/2382 /forum/message/2382 RE: Traffic jams - David Pickett
The problem is the set of lights by Manor Park and the naff design of the traffic light junction at Worcester Park. The Manor Park junction needs to be a mini roundabout. The WP Station junction needs to have dedicated right turn lanes in both directions, unfortunately with the current setup people are reluctant to use the right lanes and ost of those that are turning right do not know how to drive ie they turn across the front of dirvers turning right in the opposite direction, not only dangerous but very inefficient.
I could suggest people use public transport but that is another discussion!
Wed, 11 Jun 2008 05:46:09 -0500 http://www.ourkt4.com/forum/message/2378 /forum/message/2378 RE: pigeons under worcester park bridge - David Pickett
I am always tempted to walk under the bridge late one night and leave our little feathered friends with some late night supper - bird seed with a little added something.
The cheapest option however would be Ken Livingstone's option - a pair of trained Kestrels - it has worked wonders for Trafalgar Sqare.
On the serious front - I have already written to Network Rail (no response) as it is clearly their responsibility. So far they must have spent thousands of pounds in various anti-bird measures on WP station but all have failed miserably. They also need to be wary of the damage that the birds are doing to the underside of the WP railway bridge, the acids in the excreta will be slowly nibbling away at the girders on which they nest. They need to stop flapping about and take some serious measures - a simple total covering of the underside of the bridge along with a couple of station cats will cure the problem.
Wed, 11 Jun 2008 05:40:18 -0500 http://www.ourkt4.com/forum/message/2377 /forum/message/2377 house painter - Caroline Auty
hi there

we need to get our external woodwork painted - can anyone recommend a reliable and reasonable local person!

Thanks
Caroline
Thu, 29 May 2008 11:35:34 -0500 http://www.ourkt4.com/forum/message/2297 /forum/message/2297 Traffic jams - Karen Packham
Why is the traffic always so bad driving from the A3 up towards Worcester Park?

Maybe I'm just unlucky in the times I drive up there, but if anyone has spotted any obvious problems in the road layouts or traffic flow systems, perhaps we can feed them back to the council (who don't seem to use the local roads regularly....).
Thu, 15 May 2008 04:29:52 -0500 http://www.ourkt4.com/forum/message/2174 /forum/message/2174 RE: painter - Karen Packham
Contact the local gas suppliers or BT - they are quite happy to spray paint almost anywhere.
Thu, 15 May 2008 04:27:15 -0500 http://www.ourkt4.com/forum/message/2173 /forum/message/2173 RE: pigeons under worcester park bridge - Karen Packham
Try running fast in a zig-zag fashion....
Thu, 15 May 2008 04:25:44 -0500 http://www.ourkt4.com/forum/message/2172 /forum/message/2172 RE: pigeons under worcester park bridge - June Gray
and the other problem is the dog dirt that is not cleaned up by poop scoops near the station
Wed, 14 May 2008 17:29:23 -0500 http://www.ourkt4.com/forum/message/2170 /forum/message/2170 RE: pigeons under worcester park bridge - jenny stuart
Buy a large rim hat from TUDOR WILLIAMS - New Malden's favourite department store
Wed, 14 May 2008 12:33:01 -0500 http://www.ourkt4.com/forum/message/2168 /forum/message/2168 pigeons under worcester park bridge - Robin N Gill
On my way home from Cheam I always have to pass under this bridge, where the local wildlife seem to take get delight in aiming their waste in my (and others) general direction, this does not seem to be the case at The Plough bridge.
