The Hamptons Apartheid

Sun Aug 03, 2008 @ 03:22PM

Controversial title. But that was the title of an article in the Daily Mail on Saturday 2 Aug. The gists of it was that residents of the social housing were being asked to sign up to a children's curfew preventing their little angels going out after 9. While the other "non-social housing" residents were not requested to sign up to such an agreement.

Lots of side issues to get distracted by, but why not, what is the suposed evil injustice of having to get them indoors by 9PM. The request was made not by any Hamptons body but by the administrators of the social housing, Thames Valley Housing Trust. If there is an issue it should be taken up with TVHT not with the other residents of the Hamptons.

Has this excited disussion on any other W Pard discussion forums (what is the plural of forum please).

Hi there Outsider

It's been an ongoing topic on the Worcester Park Blog and a number of the comments in the Daily Mail were lifted from it without any form of acknowledgement of the blog or the 20 minute conversation that they had with its writer.

To expand the curfew subject Redruth in Cornwall has been running a well-publicised curfew recently and Police from Barry in Wales have been mentioned as being interested in setting up a similar scheme so the issue isn't just about curfew as such but why this one seems to have been selectively implemented at the Hamptons.

To see news about the Redruth curfew follow these links:

P.S. the plural of "forum" is "fora", from the Latin, but "forums" is much more commonly used on the internet.
